Welcome to the Premier League hub hosted by the Football Transfer Tavern. The English top flight is undoubtedly one of the biggest competitions in the world, and with so much going on, finding the important information you need can be quite a challenge.

As football fans ourselves, we will make sure you dont miss out on all of the breaking headlines and the latest gossip about your favourite clubs.

From the start of the season all the way through to the bitter relegation battle at the end, rest assured, we have got you covered.

Following discussions between broadcasters, governing bodies, and players, all of the founding members made the decision to break away from the traditional First Division, which dated back to 1888, and make a tidy profit from a lucrative television rights deal in 1992. Thus, the Premier League that we all know and love today was born, with the inaugural campaign kicking off in August of the same year.

Beforehand, English clubs had been banned from European football, as a result of the Heysel Stadium disaster during the 1985 European Cup, and the big five consisting of Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, had long grown tired of the way the Football League distributed TV revenue between all 92 clubs in the system.

Originally, there were 22 clubs in the league, although this has now shrunk to 20 in total.

Sheffield United legend Brian Deane netted the first ever goal in the brand new division against Manchester United and added a second from the penalty spot to complete a match-winning brace.

Crazily, Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale and Kevin Davies are the only players so far to have all scored, created an assist, and unfortunately buried an own goal in a single game. Former England international Peter Crouch scored more headed goals throughout his career than 16 of the teams who have featured in the competition combined, earning himself a Guinness World Record in the process.

At the time of writing, Manchester United have won the most titles, with the Red Devils lifting the famous trophy a staggering 13 times. They also claim the records for the biggest points margin and most consecutive title wins.

Newcastle Uniteds Alan Shearer still holds the Premier League record for the most goals scored overall, having bagged 440 throughout his career at St James Park.

After being a part of every Red Devils side to win the title to date, Welsh midfield maestro Ryan Giggs has collected the highest amount of winners medals.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic, and Thierry Henry have been jointly awarded the most Player of the Season awards.
